Our Client is a statistical research company that provides world-leading modelling and forecasting services to the sports industry. They are research led, looking to find solutions, rather than fitting data to a commercially driven outcome.
They are currently searching for an additional team member to join their growing, close-knit team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Administrator/Engineer to further develop your career in IT, working with a pioneering group of rapidly expanding companies, across a number of sectors, including education, renewable energy and statistical research. This position is a Permanent positon based in Exeter and the salary is competitive and negotiable depending on your experience.
This position is focused on their large virtualised Linux estate, a high number of MySQL database servers and a growing HPC cluster.
You’ll have the opportunity to work across a wide range of systems including CentOS Linux, VMware, MySQL and Puppet, with a view to support and develop them as the company grows. A major upgrade of the existing Linux infrastructure is one of the first projects you can expect to be involved with; upgrading server OSs and looking for ways to better support it as it expands.
You can expect a varied role that focusses on Linux, but branches out into Windows, Mac, networking and infrastructure monitoring and maintenance when required. This is a predominantly systems rather than development role, but scripting skills in Bash, Python or Ruby won’t go amiss.
You’ll have a keen interest in new developments and new practices in IT, and an open mind when it comes to working within a small IT team. They work hard to ensure no-one’s research is limited by their supporting framework, which means they are innovative by nature and always up to date with new technologies.
You’ll have a calm and logical approach, with strong time management and experience of navigating competing demands, with a range of stakeholders. Strong, adaptive communication is vital in this collaborative role, with the ability to explain complex systems and concepts to non-technical staff.
