My client, a niche underwriter of specialist insurance solutions are looking for a Data Scientist / Statistician to join their established technical department. This is a permanent opportunity based near Bank (Central London) paying between £45k & £65k DOE.

Currently on boarding clients, they are looking for a Data Scientist to join their small but effective technical team to continue to assist with the new and existing workloads by analysing niche insurance risks for which there is minimal insurance claims data, or where the risks are sufficiently heterogeneous to make the normal actuarial approach ineffective.
The Data Scientist will be responsible for assisting the technical team with the cleaning and management of data for analysis, liaising with the underwriting teams to asses model requirements. You will work with the technical team to develop models which includes the initial model design, parameter estimation, model comparison and selection and live implementation. You will also maintain repositories of model code using suitable version controls, along with this, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining model documentation.
The right candidate will have:
•BSc or MSc in a STEM subject.
•2 + years commercial experience, desirably with cleaning, transforming data with an emphasis on parameter estimation.
•Strong operational ability with Python, R or Matlab.
•Experience of one or more of the following: generalised linear modelling, Bayesian methods, actuarial mathematics, survival analysis, time-to-event models, time-series, spatial statistics, Gaussian processes
•An interest in MCMC and probabilistic programming languages such as BUGS, JAGS, Stan, PyMC.
•The ability to manage their own time and work independently.
Candidates are not expected to have a full working knowledge of the various techniques required to operate and develop this clients models, however you must be prepared to continue to learn and develop as part of your role. Due to this the right candidate must have the ability to communicate well, not only in a manner which allows you to learn for yourself, but also to translate statistical concepts to both technical and non-technical stake holders.
