Our client, a scientific, research based technology company, are looking for a Data Science / Research Manager to join their established team. This is a permanent opportunity based in their head office in Exeter which is paying up to £80,000 in remuneration plus an attractive benefits package.
Using technology, data and real world observations, this company are revolutionising the education sector, in particular how mathematics is taught in schools today. They are looking to make lessons more personalised, evidence driven and essentially improve the standard of teaching by using their platform. The data science department is at the heart of this company and their product. You will have a strong scientific background with great attention to detail. Being part of a realistic environment, you will have the ability to show what can and cannot be done with the data sets provided and an ability to communicate these findings to a multitude of audiences is a must.
Responsibilities of the Data Science Manager include; owning the educational research strategy across desk research and live trials, translate these findings into relatable business projects and managing stakeholders. You will research, develop and apply new analytical approaches to not only solve new issues, but improve existing solutions. You will support others within the department with their own research and not be afraid to get your hands dirty alongside the people that report to you. You will also be the go to person and a fountain of knowledge in regards to the latest external research, which will assist you in leading your departments own publications whilst also leading and acting as line manager for a team of researchers, statisticians and data scientists.
The right candidate must have:
•A minimum of a Master’s degree in a STEM subject
•10+ years of professional experience developing and applying a range of statistical approaches to solving real life problems, with a thorough understanding of the relative strengths/limitations of each approach and potential alternatives
•People and project management experience across short-term deliverables, as well as longer-term strategy and objectives
•Strong operational ability analysing large datasets using (one or multiple of) Python, R, MATLAB, SAS or similar.
•Competent with designing and conducting rigorous experiments using A/B trials and their variants
Some desirable traits are:
•Teaching and/or tutoring experience and knowledge of education and the school system
•Experience in modelling hierarchical data and experimental/quasi-experimental design
